He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. 43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere. |
February 5thJesus Heals Many29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. January 29thMark 1:21-28 Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. |

But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. How then can we be saved? 6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. 7 No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to our sins. 8 Yet you, LORD, are our Father. Worship Bulletin (MS Word) A Story .... What happens to a piece of clay if you forget and leave it out for a long time? It dries up and gets hard doesn't it? That makes it very hard to mold it into what we want it to be. That reminds me of what was happening to God's people during the day of the prophet Isaiah. In our Bible lesson today, Isaiah is very upset and is begging God to come down and change the hearts of his people. "We have sinned and turned away from you and you have become angry with us. How can we be saved? No one calls on your name or pleads for your mercy. You've turned away from us." That sounds pretty hopeless, doesn't it? Well, Isaiah didn't think so. He knew that if people would turn back to God, he could mold them and shape them into what he wanted them to be. Isaiah continued talking to God, "Oh LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We are formed by your hand. Please don't be so angry with us, Look at us and see that we are your people." Isaiah knew that even though the hearts of God's people had become hard, he could still mold them into what he wanted them to be. Just like the people in Isaiah's day, we sometimes stray away from God and our hearts become hard. All is not hopeless. If we will turn back to God and ask him to forgive us, he can mold us and shape us into what he wants us to be. He is still the potter and we are still the clay! Our Father, forgive us when we go astray. Take us in your hands and shape us into what you want us to be. In Jesus' name we pray. Thanksgiving, October 10th Happy Thanksgiving Canada Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 2nd Monday of October. This year Thanksgiving will fall on Monday, October 10, 2011. Thanksgiving in Canada has generally thought to come from three traditions. European farmers in Europe held celebrations at harvest time to give thanks for their good fortune of a good harvest and abundance of food. They would often fill a curved goat's horn with fruits and grains. This was known as a cornucopia or horn of good plenty. When Europeans came to Canada it is thought to have become an influence on the Canadian Thanksgiving Tradition. Around 1578 English navigator Martin Frobisher held a ceremony, in what is now called the province of Newfoundland and Labrador to give thanks for surviving his journey there. Other settlers later arrived and continued these "thankful" ceremonies. This was also thought to be an influence on the Canadian Thanksgiving tradition. The third influence happened in 1621 in what was to become the United States. Pilgrims celebrated their first harvest in the "New World". Around 1750 this celebration of harvest was brought to Nova Scotia by American settlers from the south. At the same time, French settlers arriving were also holding feasts of "thanksgiving". These celebrations and offerings of "Thanks" influenced the Canadian Thanksgiving.
In 1879 Canadian Parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. Over the years the date of Thanksgiving changed several times until on January 31st, 1957 Parliament proclaimed....."that the 2nd Monday in October"........"be a Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed.".

Revelation 22Eden Restored1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

Romans 8:18-27New International Version (NIV) Present Suffering and Future Glory18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
ROMANS Yes, the people in those days wrote letters much the same as we do now. They couldn't send them by air mail as we do, nor were they carried by railway trains. Paul wrote many letters, and most of them were carried by his friends, who went all the way from one city to another to deliver them. We learned in one of our stories that Paul was taken to Rome as a prisoner, and that he lived as a prisoner in Rome for a long time. But there were disciples of Jesus in Rome before Paul lived there, and it was to these that he sent this letter. One of the things he wrote is this: "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation."-Romans 1:16 As you know, the word "Gospel" means good news, and we are not ashamed of the good news of Christ, either! The good news of Christ means all the wonderful promises of God to make the whole world alive again. That certainly is good news, and we should be very glad to tell people about it whenever we can.
